📚 The Growth That Comes from Serving Others

Inspired by The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John C. Maxwell

By Coach Sheréa VéJauan

Have you ever noticed how some of the most impactful people you know seem to lead with humility, not hype? It’s not just what they do—it’s who they are. That kind of character doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built one intentional act at a time.

This week in the Goal Skool Book Club, we’re reading through The Law of the Ladder—a powerful chapter from John Maxwell’s The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. One quote in particular stood out to me:

“Plan to spend time in the coming months to regularly serve others. Putting aside your own agenda and putting others first will help you to develop humility, character, and others-mindedness.” – John C. Maxwell

Whew. Let that sit for a minute.

In a world that’s constantly pushing us to “focus on me,” this is a radical reminder that true growth happens when we shift our attention to we. Service isn’t just about being nice—it’s a strategy for character development. It's a pathway to becoming the kind of person who can sustain the success they're working toward.

Here’s the truth: if you're always climbing, but never checking the strength of the ladder you're on (a.k.a. your character), you risk building a version of success that can’t hold your weight.

That’s why I’m committing to making service a non-negotiable in the months ahead. Not because I want recognition—but because I want growth that goes deeper than titles or timelines. Growth that builds me up while I’m lifting others.

Here’s a simple reflection:

Who can I serve this week?

How can I be generous with my time, skills, or encouragement?

Where in my life do I need to choose character over convenience?

If that resonates with you, I’d love to invite you to join us inside the Goal Skool Book Club. We’re reading one book a month together—with tools, reflection guides, and a supportive community to help you grow on purpose.

Because growth isn’t just about getting ahead. It’s about becoming someone who’s worth following.
