A New Year Checklist That Goes Beyond Goals: Reflection, Vision, and Legacy
Every year, January arrives with pressure to do more and be more. But the most powerful years aren’t rushed into—they’re designed with intention.
Instead of jumping straight into resolutions, I encourage a reset rhythm—one that honors reflection, clarity, vision, and legacy. Here’s a simple New Year checklist you can return to year after year.
December 30: Reflect on the Past Year
Before you plan forward, pause.
Ask yourself:
What worked this year?
What didn’t?
What lessons am I carrying forward?
Reflection helps you close the chapter with wisdom, not regret.
December 31: Select Your Word of the Year
Your word becomes a filter for decisions, boundaries, and focus.
This isn’t about trends—it’s about alignment.Choose a word that represents who you are becoming, not just what you want to achieve.
January 1: National Goal Setting Day
This is where intention meets action.
Write your goals.Clarify your priorities.Align them with your Word of the Year.
Remember: consistency beats perfection every time.
January 10: Create Your Vision Board
A vision board isn’t arts and crafts—it’s visual clarity.
When you can see where you’re going, it’s easier to stay committed when motivation fades. Place it where you’ll see it daily and speak life over what you’re building.
January 19: MLK Day — Revisit Your Legacy Goals
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminds us that success without impact is incomplete.
On MLK Day, pause and ask:
What am I building that outlives me?
Who benefits from my growth?
How do my goals serve others?
Legacy goals shift your focus from achievement to impact.
Final Thought
Goals shape your year.Legacy shapes your life.
As you move forward, don’t just ask “What do I want to accomplish?”Ask “What do I want to be remembered for?”
Here’s to a year built with clarity, intention, and purpose.
